Since 2011, the newly opened stores of Far Eastern Department Stores have embedded the concept of environmental sustainability into various aspects, including the building structure, space design, and hardware and software facilities. For example, the Taichung Top City store features the first ice storage energy-saving air conditioning system in Far Eastern Department Stores. This system operates during off-peak hours at night, avoiding peak electricity demand and effectively reducing carbon emissions. The store is also equipped with solar power generation and rainwater recycling systems, aiming for low-carbon operations to minimize the store’s environmental impact.
