Fashionable Green Stores with Low-Carbon Operations

FEDS integrates environmental consciousness into operational processes and management practices based on its core competencies, aiming to create green value for society through products and services. In 2025, FEDS focused on four green initiatives: supporting green transportation, constructing green department store buildings, preserving urban green spaces, and promoting sustainable green living, in line with its commitment to sustainable development.

Green Building as Urban Green Landmark

FEDS pioneered the trend of department stores by incorporating the green building concept into the design of department store at an early stage. Since 2011, the newly opened stores of FEDS have been planned as new-style environmentally friendly and energy-saving department stores. With the four main focus of “ecology, energy saving, waste reduction, and health”, we have created sustainable and fashionable green department stores, so that the department store is not only a department store, but also a green landmark in the city.

FEDS had five environmentally friendly green buildings in 2025, leading the department store industry in this regard. FEDS Baoqing Store is currently undergoing renovations and will be developed into a high-standard environmentally friendly department store, becoming the company’s sixth green building.

Eco-Friendly Stores Putting Sustainability into Practice

Since 2011, the newly opened stores of FEDS have embedded the concept of environmental sustainability into various aspects, including the building structure, space design, and hardware and software facilities. For example, the Top City Taichung store features the first ice storage energy-saving air conditioning system in Far Eastern Department Stores. This system operates during off-peak hours at night, avoiding peak electricity demand and effectively reducing carbon emissions. The store is also equipped with solar power generation and rainwater recycling systems, aiming for low-carbon operations to minimize the store’s environmental impact.

FEDS XinYi A13 features several eco-friendly initiatives, opened in 2020. The mall includes a rainwater recycling system and uses Low-E glass on the 4th floor for natural lighting to save energy. Green walls help reduce indoor temperature and improve comfort, while the rooftop garden with extensive grass planting serves as an urban oasis that reduces carbon emissions, purifies air, and enhances biodiversity.

FEDS Zhubei Store is the latest fifth-generation store in FEDS. As FEDS’s first BOT project, it has earned Gold-level Green Building certification and the Silver Award for Taiwan Architecture Sustainability. The store dedicates 350 ping of rooftop space to a lush sky garden with ponds and plantings that provide habitat for local wildlife while reducing temperature and absorbing carbon dioxide.

Maintaining Urban Green Spaces for a Beautiful City

In addition to creating green buildings, FEDS also supports urban beautification policies by assisting in maintaining green recreational areas and beautification spaces. Each year, funds are allocated to adopt trees along sidewalks and green spaces around the shopping malls, with staff regularly maintaining the surrounding environment and pruning plants as needed. In 2025, the area of green space adopted and maintained by FEDS reached 1,865.2 ping, an increase of about 3% compared to 2024.Including the green space adopted by subsidiary The Mall, the overall adopted area reached 3,528.2 ping. Through long-term green space maintenance, FEDS continues to add greenery to the city and build a friendlier and more livable environment for the community.
