As the only department store company in Taiwan to join the Intercontinental Group of Department Stores (IGDS), FEDS maintains close ties with global retail partners to stay abreast of industry trends and innovation, promote best practices, and drive industry advancement.

Joining IGDS

The Intercontinental Group of Department Stores (IGDS) is the world’s largest department store organization, bringing together 44 leading department stores worldwide to exchange insights on retail trends and innovation. FEDS became the first Asian department store to join IGDS in 1988 and has long been its only member representing Taiwan.

Through annual IGDS meetings and exchanges, FEDS stays abreast of global trends in mall operations, customer experience, and innovative business models. FEDS also shares Taiwan’s retail achievements and experience, showcasing the strength of Taiwan’s retail industry and enhancing its international visibility and competitiveness.

The Taiwan-Japan Department Store Association Initiates First Exchange

In November 2024, RACT Nancy Hsu, Chairperson, led representatives from 23 member companies to Tokyo to visit the Japan Department Stores Association. The delegation was received by Executive Director Nishisaka Yoshiharu and other representatives of the Japan Department Stores Association. They also met with senior executives from Takashimaya, Isetan, and GSIX, and visited department stores such as Takashimaya Nihonbashi Store, Isetan Shinjuku Main Store, and GINZA SIX to gain a deeper understanding of each store’s unique operational characteristics and exceptional customer service practices, thereby fostering pioneering communication and friendship bridges for Taiwan-Japan department store exchanges.

Sharing ESG Practices Through Industry Exchange

In September 2025, FEDS was invited to share its ESG achievements at the General Meeting of the Taiwan Council of Shopping Centers and Commercial Real Estate. FEDS introduced its practical experience in integrating sustainability into mall planning, operations, products, and services.Guided by innovation and responsibility, FEDS continues to promote green buildings, energy efficiency, carbon reduction, resource circularity, and green consumption, integrating sustainability into daily operations and customer services. Through sustainable products, local agricultural products, and member engagement, FEDS also works with consumers to promote sustainable lifestyles.The sharing highlighted FEDS’ progress in sustainable transformation and encouraged greater industry engagement in ESG practices to create long-term economic, environmental, and social value.

Bringing the Industry Together to Develop Retail Talent

From January 2016 to June 2025, Vice Chairwoman and President Nancy Hsu served as Chairperson of the Retailers Association of Chinese Taipei, supporting the launch of the “Retail Innovation Excellence Awards” to advance industry innovation and talent development.

Attending the 21st APRCE in Sri Lanka

The 21st Asia-Pacific Retailers Convention & Expo was held in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, in September 2024. The event attracted over 350 retail industry leaders from 18 regions and countries. Together, they witnessed the thriving development of the retail industry in the Asia-Pacific region and took the opportunity to exchange rich experiences and insights in retail.

During this conference, FEDS was honored in the “Country Awards” by FAPRA for its outstanding performance, recognizing retail enterprises with innovative and excellent achievements across various regions and countries. This marks FEDS’ second win, following its receipt of the “Best Corporate Social Responsibility” award in 2019, making it the only department store in Taiwan to achieve the dual titles of “Country Awards” and “Best Corporate Social Responsibility” from FAPRA.

Leverage Influence and Lead Peer Exchanges

Since assuming the position of Chairperson of the Retailers Association of Chinese Taipei (RACT) in January 2016, FEDS President Nancy Hsu has organized over 161 events, leading the association to become a platform for industry exchange and serving as a think tank by providing retail policy recommendations to the government to enhance innovation and added value in the retail sector. In 2024, RACT had 8 group members, represented by 36 individuals, and 61 individual members, hosting a total of 16 events.

FEDS actively participates in domestic and foreign industry associations and related activities to expand its business horizons and contribute to its influence. FEDS is one and only Taiwan representative of the Intercontinental Group of Department Stores (IGDS) and regularly communicates with the international department stores industry every year to promote the prosperous development of the industry and become a staunch force for internationalization and modernization of the department stores industry in Taiwan.

FEDS joined a total of 52 important domestic and foreign public associations in 2023, with a total expenditure of NT$2.11 million. FEDS serve as director and supervisor in 5 public associations, including Retailers Association of Chinese Taipei, Taiwan Council of Shopping Centers and Commercial Real Estate, Center for Corporate Sustainability, Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce, and Taipei Department Store Merchant Association. FEDS hopes leveraging the power of the industrial associations to strengthen communication with peers, promote enterprise cooperation, prosper the development, and enhance the sustainable power together.
