Tree Planting for Carbon Reduction
Sowing Seeds of a Low-Carbon Future
At a time when the world is focusing on environmental protection issues, FEDS is also considering how to make environmental promotion more localized and closer to people’s daily lives. On March 22, 2024, FEDS launched its inaugural tree-planting campaign, connecting with the New Taipei City Government’s “Urban Forestry for Net Zero Sustainability” initiative, planting 40 Taiwan endemic Taiwan incense trees at Wensheng Elementary School in Banqiao District, New Taipei City, working together for a wonderful net-zero carbon future.
People often say “It takes ten years to nurture a tree, but a hundred years to cultivate a person.” FEDS launched its inaugural tree-planting campaign, which focuses on planting Taiwan endemic Taiwan incense trees for the former, while the latter “hundred years to cultivate a person” requires more people to join the effort. We also hope that ESG sustainability concepts will take root in students’ minds like seeds planted in soil, driving more sustainable actions to be implemented in daily life and creating a better life for society. Through these efforts, FEDS commits to working together toward a wonderful net-zero carbon future. The tree-planting activities will continue to expand across FEDS locations in various counties and cities, selecting appropriate tree species for gradual implementation, protecting the environment and encouraging everyone to join the environmental movement by fostering a new relationship with nature through care for the land.
In May 2025, FEDS partnered with Tainan City Government and Siraya National Scenic Area Headquarters to hold the “Plant to Protect – Stand Up and Plant Small Trees for Great Sustainability Help” tree-planting activity at Nanhua Visitor Center, launching the “FEDS Tree Planting Program: Year Two”. The 6 Purple Tabebuia trees and 40 Bead trees planted are expected to bloom successively during the Lunar New Year period next year. We look forward to the trees growing and flourishing, allowing visitors to enjoy the brilliant Purple Tabebuia blossoms, spending wonderful time with family and friends, and feeling a deep connection with the land. We hope that through annual tree-planting activities, we can continue to add more greenery to the environment and let sustainable concepts take root in more people’s hearts, working together to create a more ideal green city.
In March 2026, FEDS launched a tree-planting initiative at Xingang Elementary School in Zhubei City, Hsinchu County. FEDS selected native Taiwanese species suited to the local climate and campus conditions, planting 50 trees in total, including 40 Rhodomyrtus tomentosa, 7 Chionanthus retusus, and 3 Acer serrulatum. FEDS’s management team joined students in planting the saplings by hand, providing a hands-on opportunity to learn about environmental protection and sustainability. As the trees grow, they will enhance the campus’s green coverage and create a more comfortable learning environment for students.
In addition to the tree-planting initiative, nine FEDS branches — Banqiao Global Mall, Taoyuan, Zhubei, Hsinchu Global Mall, Taichung Global Mall, Chiayi, Tainan Global Mall, Kaohsiung Global Mall, and Hualien Global Mall — also took part in sapling giveaway events held in partnership with the Forestry Bureau (under the Council of Agriculture) and related agencies. Customers could exchange eco-friendly actions, such as donating receipts or bringing their own shopping bags, for native Taiwanese saplings. In 2025, a total of 4,008 saplings were redeemed through this initiative, reflecting FEDS’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
